Your comfort is our priority
We stayed at an rv park in Salem for just over a week and were disappointed in the number of homeless people ALL around the city. Also, with water rates and water use restrictions, residential neighborhoods look sloppy and unappealing. City needs to do something to encourage residents to enhance its appearance and teach people how to create drought tolerant yards and landscape options.
City of Salem water bill is out of control. I received letters and emails for senior relief. I tried to respond and just get a run around. I moved into Salem in 2000. My water bill was $34/month bimonthly. It's $70 a month now. One person, same usage. This is what happens when we allow a street light tax by vote. Seems to be a ticket for a blank check to the local government. Our water still comes from a river and back to the river. I understand a reasonable rate increase but this is more than a cable service. And I can't cancel it without doing without water. Seems close to organized crime.
The human suffering and deaths of homeless people due to the lack of fore thought planning and total indifference by the City of Salem, is truly shocking. I asked a City of Salem worker at a park recently if they considered the fact that the Willamette river rises quickly and already incapacitated homeless people camping close to the river may drown? The worker said "That's inconsequential". When I asked if they then considered all thousands of pounds of garbage going into the river all they could say is they lost their free inmate labor so they don't have the man power to do anything. Ironically the two workers sat in their truck for about 40 minutes around 10AM and literally did nothing at all. In my attempts emailing the Mayor's office numerous times only resulted in a routine notice "Someone will get back to you. It never happened. Weekly more large business offices are on the market in Salem for sale. It is clear this city has become inhospitable to many of it's residents. I for one cannot wait to get out of here.
Had to pay a stinkin camera ticket, not for running a red light, it was for speeding up thru the intersection so I didn't end up running a red light. Anyways the girls at the counter were great that's why I am giving them 5 stars
